Comment - Greetings! I have had the privilege of working with the Akonua and Kwama Children’s Literacy Foundation with establishing a computer lab for the students of Obama College. Located in the community of Mankessim, Obama College was established in 2009 and currently has 300 students. The private senior high school offers core classes such as English, social studies, and mathematics. However, with only one functioning computer, the school was unable to effectively teach the students about ICT (Information and Communications Technology) which, in today’s society, has become just as essential as any core class. With this in mind, the good people
of Akonua and Kwama Children’s Literacy Foundation decided to help. Now, what was once an old room in the administrative office has been transformed into a state of the art computer room, complete with eight supercharged Gateway computers. With these new tools at their disposal, the students of Obama College will gain valuable skills that will provide them with a competitive edge in a world that is increasingly dependent on proficient computer users. Headmaster Mr. Bainson says that with the addition of the new computer lab, his students, “will be able to gain more knowledge and will achieve a higher level of learning enabling them to compete in the business world”. Vital skills such as typing and using essential programs like Microsoft Word and Excel will give students the tools needed to excel professionally, and provide their country with valuable assets to better improve Ghana, and ultimately, the world.
As for me, before I left America, I had never thought twice about how different my world would be without computers. From my early childhood, I have been blessed with access to a computer; whether it was at home, at school, or at the local library, if I needed a computer, I could find one. This is not the case here in Ghana. After spending about eight months here I now have a better understanding of how important computers are to the future development of this country. In order for Ghana to move forward, students need both computer access and a thorough understanding of essential computer programs. These tools will enable the students of today to become the leaders of tomorrow. Thanks to you, the students of Obama College now have the
means to grasp their future. Whether it was setting up the electricity in the ICT room, donating funds, or praying for the success of the project, in your own way you have helped make this project a reality. These computers offer these students more than just access to knowledge or media. They offer a brighter future. Thank you and know that the future of Ghana also thanks you.

Comment: I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to seek your generous support and partnership for an important course that is close to our hearts at Akonua and Kwama Children's Literacy Foundation.
We strongly believe that, together we can make a significant impact and bring positive change into our community. The Foundation is dedicated to support literacy in Africa by awarding scholarships and distributing educational materials to children inMankessim and the municipality at large. I write to confirm that the Foundation is a Canadian Registered Charity and has given more than thirty (30) brilliant but needy students scholarships and has built computer labs for four (4) senior high schools.
I hereby recommend Akonua and Kwama Children's Literacy Foundation for financial support to enable the foundation to build a Community Public Library that will serve a District of about 152,858 people with no public library. We firmly believe that collaboration and partnership are vital for creating lasting change..
Your involvement will not only demonstrate your commitment to the project but it will also provide you with an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people in Mankessim, Mfantseman District, Ghana. In recognition of your generosity, we will ensure that your organization isprominently acknowledged and recognized throughout our promotional materials. We would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss this further and explore how we can collaborate for the greater good. Onbehalf of Akonua and Kwama Children's Literacy Foundation, I would like to express our appreciation for your time, consideration andpotential support. Together we can make a real and lasting difference in the lives of those in need. Thank you.

Comment: What makes me happy to serve on the Board of Directors for the Foundation is the warm feeling that I have, knowing about the benefits our work has given to the people of Mankessim, Ghana. We have worked to give scholarships for many young, aspiring youth to higher education. We have also contracted for Computer labs in all the local high schools. And we have bought the land and plan for the structure of the only public library to be built in Mankessim. We are hoping to raise enough funds to build it in the future.

Comment: To have seen the joy in the faces of the students in the schools we had built the computer labs for. To have met the students who had graduated and become Registered Nurses; to know that in a small way, the Foundation is making an impact in the lives of individuals, that is what fulfills me. Am proud to be part of this foundation albeit small. We are told not to discount small beginnings; the sky's the limit.

Comment: The joyful voices of the students crying on my phone when I transfer their scholarships, they call to acknowledge receipt but because they are filled with too much joy, burst into tears and start to cry when saying thanks for the scholarship. Akonua my mother left for eternity when I was three months old and Kwama, my in-law, was a single mother who took care of four children alone. Whenever a student cries while saying thanks for the help, I feel like Akonua and Kwama are beside me and that joy gives me strength to go on in life. The strength here is the extraordinary joy that comes from the unconditional love for the needy and is worth experiencing it rather than seeing someone sharing it. The Canadian Dollar is very strong now and the exchange rate is so high that $150,000.00 CAD will be enough to complete the Community Public Library for a District of 152,858 people. Change lovers let the world see your love towards this Community Public Library project. We thank Marda Loop Church, Calgary, Alberta for the book sale to raise funds to support us. A corporation has also assured us that “We can not start it for you but if you start, we will help you to finish it”

Comment: I was seeking an opportunity to contribute my expertise for the advancement of education of impoverished children in Africa having worked in educational development projects in Tanzania. When I met the Founder 13 years back, he explained his idea of a foundation he intended to set up to help children in Ghana. Realizing that he was extremely passionate, sincere and genuine, having a clear vision, I immediately wanted to assist in this noble cause. We met over a period of around 3 months spending countless evening hours together initially at the Calgary Village Square Public Library and thereafter at his residence to brainstorm, write, specify project objectives, and put together an acceptable project proposal for a website, domain name registration, and website hosting.

Comment: Akonua and Kwama Children Literacy Foundation has helped children in Mfantseman district; both boys and girls now have equal opportunities for education Some high schools have received computer labs and digital books for a preparatory school and l know these technologies will spread up change in the district, because most parents did not have education and they are mostly small scale farmers. Donors kindly support the foundation to build a community public library in Mankessim and l know it will go a long way to help most of the children in the whole district Akonua and Kwama well done

Comments: I congratulate Mr Orleans Pobee the founder for his initiative and foresight in the spirit of championing the promotion of education in Africa specifically in a rural setting in Ghana. This is laudable in complementing the effort of government which is always inadequate.
The facilities so far provided to the community is highly appreciated because the potential impact on the current and future development of the standard of living of the people is huge. one striking observation is that the educational support cuts across the various different segment of the community that is no religious or tribal bias.
I plead with potential donors to continue to support the Foundation to provide more facilities to the youth to build a better society for all.

Their generosity has now inspired them to start the Akonua and Kwama Children's Literacy Foundation, which helps to fund the studies of under privileged students in their native Ghana. With just a few dollars donated to the foundation, students are able to graduate with a degree and their future changed in a remarkable way. Orleans and Felicia, we applaud your initiative and encourage others to come alongside you in raising the bar for Ghanaian students.

Comment: The Akonua and Kwama Children's Literacy Foundation promises to be a source of blessing for our bubbling town of Mankessim in the Central Region of Ghana. I thank Mr. Orleans Kodwo Pobee for pursuing the inspiration he had to bring his idea to birth.
Mankessim is a traditional town with an ever-growing MARKET-CENTRE. For that reason, the town has attracted more and more people to the extent that elementary and secondary and technical schools are opening up rapidly. So the Akonua and Kwama Children's Literacy Foundation has come at an opportune time to meet some of the needs of the educational population.
Presently, the Foundation has been able to open a COMPUTER LAB for the OBAMA COLLEGE that is functioning in the town. In addition, a sizeable land has been acquired for a PUBLIC LIBRARY", levelled and is ready to begin construction of the foundation on which the Public Library would be built.
Eleven scholarships have been awarded so far for students to continue their education in the Universities and Technical Institutions. Five more scholarships have been awarded this academic year, beginning September 2014.
With the newly-constituted Board of Directors, the Foundation looks forward to a responsible future for the growing town of Mankessim. It is hoped that the efforts to fundraise for resources to develop projects will be fruitful so that the children of Mankessim may be enabled to study and thus prepare themselves to serve their town and country as responsible, fruitful citizens.

Comments: We have known Orleans and Felicia since their arrival in Calgary when they immigrated to Canada in 1988 and over all these years have shown to us their honesty, integrity, strong work ethic and generosity.

Comments: I have checked the current progression of the charities impact in my home city Toronto and my family city Mankessim in Ghana. Bravo to all that made this possible. The Torontonians really admire your endeavours and grateful for the help to promote advance literacy in Mankessim whereby other citizens living abroad or home can emulate this example of love and care for our land of origin. God bless you and the entire board for the tremendous contribution.

The classes started on Mondays to Fridays, morning and evening. Mornings for senior high students who were about 10 to 16 and afternoons for junior high students who were about 3 to 4.The students enjoyed the classes and on the last day we all advised ourselves and took a refreshment and a picture.
